This 1920s property was bought by its current owners in 2014. Since then they have added a daylight solar thermal system on their roof linked to a wood burner with a back boiler and finally a gas boiler installed by Wessex ECOEnergy. An intelligent control panel makes the most of the solar power and heat from the wood burner before allowing the gas boiler to operate minimising fossil fuel consumption and saving money. It is also intended that the separate office building should soon be equipped with solar PV on the roof and there should be rainwater harvesting based on a tank in the garden. As the owner works from this office he no longer has to commute to London every week so further reducing the household carbon footprint.
The house also benefits from loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, draught proofing and double glazing. Inside the house there are LEDs and low energy white goods.
